Godfrey Farm on Broad Creek
(For more Norfolk geography tidbits, click here.)

"S.O. Merwin, Auct'r, By Merwin & Co."
"Intending to remove from this section, I will offer for sale in front of Merwin & Co.'s auction house, corner of Broadwater and Roanoke streets, to the highest bidder on Wednesday the 16th day of November, at 12 o'clock M., my farm, on the Broad Creek and Princess Anne Hampton Roads Times Magazine
HamptonRoadsTimes.comRoad, Norfolk County, distant three miles and three-quarters from the city.  The stream is navigable for lighters , and there is a good landing on the premises.  The soil is excellent, and it is said to be as good for trucking purposes as any in the vicinity.  There is an excellent spring of water.  The buildings comprise a good dwelling, with all necessary houses in good repair for the use of the farm.  One-half of the farm is enclosed with post and juniper rails, the balance in pine; it contains one hundred and seventy-five acres, one-half cleared, in good cultivation.  About three thousand cords of wood might be cut, no part being more than a half mile from the landing.  The wood is principally pine and oak.  This could be divided into two trucking farms.  It is considered one of the healthiest in that section.  I also offer for sale a piece of woodland, situated one mile from Moore's Bridges, containing forty acres, more or less.  Terms accommodating, which will be made known on day of sale.  William Godfrey."
