Broad Creek Farm, 1822
(For more Norfolk geography tidbits, click here.)
"Postponed sale of a very valuable property: By virtue of a deed in trust from Charles Brittain and Amy his wife to secure the payment of a certain sum of money therein named, to Elizabeth Stone, which deed is dated the 3d of July , 1821, and duly recorded in the Court of Norfolk County – will be sold on Saturday the 7th of Sept. at the lower end of the Market, between the hours of 12 and 1 o'clock – a tract or parcel of land in Norfolk county, situated on Broad Creek, at its intersection with the Eastern Branch of Elizabeth River, being bounded by said creek on the East and by the Eastern Branch on the South – only 3 miles from Norfolk Borough by land about 2 by water, and containing 400 acres, more or less. There has seldom been an opportunity offered of obtaining so desirable an estate as this: The soil is fertile and produces luxuriantly every species of grain and vegetable peculiar to the climate. The principal part of the tract which borders on the creek and river is heavily timbered, and will be a never failing source of revenue to the proprietor by the sale of firewood, which may be cut and transported to the Norfolk market more conveniently and upon cheaper terms than from any other place in the vicinity; while its near proximity to that market would ensure a regular and advantageous sale for the various products of the soil. To an industrious and enterprising proprietor it could not fail of yielding the amount of the purchase money in a very short period. Terms, cash. The Trustees."
